Paramount Pictures has optioned to take Avril Lavigne's song "Sk8er Boi" and stretch it into a full feature length film. Acting as consultants on the screenplay will be Scott Spock, Lauren Christy and Graham Edwards, co-writers of the song.
David Zabel, a writer and producer on the long-running series ER, is to turn the words of the song into a film. The film is expected to have a large musical element in the mould of the 1980s films Flashdance and Footloose. The song tells of a teenage punk who falls in love with a girl who does ballet.
I think it would be safe to say this will be very loosely based on the song. Stretching a 3 minute song into a 108 minute feature film is going to require making alot of stuff up on the way. Though a release date isn't mentioned, I'm guessing they'll slam something together by year's end to ride on the current wave of success the song is seeing.
He was a boy (No duh...)
She was a girl (Really? Wow...)
I bet, the boy skateboards! And and and... The girl is a girly girl who likes to do girly girl things!
THEN, its the future... and she could have had him... but sits in her lonely apartment, and sees him on TV. Then, he is with some "punk sk8er gurl" (Maybe Avril?)
Thats the song... add in some drama, and some nonsense... and ya got a movie
Seriously though, I can't wait till the movie sucks! ::said as if I'm excited::
I mean come on... no DECENT actors or directors will likely sign on for this unless the money's great, and even America's youth is foolish enough to pay to see a movie based on a song that was never great to begin with... and the writer is an unheard of songwriter... yeah, everyone gets their start somewhere, but he seems to have come up with corny lyrics that'll only transfer to unrealistically corny dialogue in the script!
