This year's Latin Grammy Awards was hosted by George Lopez, and with the VMA's in recent memory it made this award show seem excellent.
Before the host came on stage the first performance was done by Jessica Simpson which was a good performance.
George came on stage on a horse in a Mexican outfit, during his opening act he had some words for President Bush which were in Spanish to see 'if Bush can understand Spanish' The part was beeped out on television, the whole audience was laughing and he said the translation was 'Good luck in your future endevours' which made the audience laugh again.
The first Award given out was to the Best New Artist.
The winner was Maria Rita.
The award looks like a small old gramophone, the same as the regular Grammys.
The second performance of the night was by Paulina Rubio. She sang a song in Spanish, and did a remarkable performance.
The next award was for Best Female pop vocal album The winner of this award was De Mil Colores Rosario
Before the host, George Lopez, introduced the next performance he told the audience that the most asked question to him was if he was related to Jennifer Lopez. His answer was "I hope not, I'm next in line to marry her". After the joke he introduced Incubus and Cafe Tacuba. They sang a song with english and spanish in it, which was censored several times. It was a very good performance though, but one of the singers of Cafe Tacuba was slightly distracting me just because the outfit he was wearing looked like a giant pink rubber condom.
The next award went again to Maria Rita for the Best MPB Album. They also announced that the winner of the best salsa Album went to the late Regalo Del Alma Celia Cruz. It was said that she appeared on over 70 albums in her life and that she has been a great influence on Latin music.
The next performers were Roselyn Sanchez and Akwid both singing in Spanish and it was quite entertaining.
The winner for Best Music Video was Mas Y Mas. Followed by an excellent performance of Carlos Santana together with Los Lonely Boys. They were doing a medley consisting of Spanish and English songs.
Before George Lopez announced the next performers he said that any Latino that would want to play a sport that they should take up golf. This because it was the first time he could legally hit something white. The performer he announced was the singer that wrote 'She bangs' which according to George "even William Hung couldn't mess it up". He also wrote the song 'Living La Vida Loca'. The audience clearly liked it, it was an ok performance, but in my opinion the weakest performance of the evening.
The Black Eyed Peas presented the next award together with another presenter, which continued the VMA tradition of getting people to vote for the upcoming election. Then they announced the winner for Best Record of the year which went to 'No Es Lo Mismo' by Alejandro Sanz.
Some pre-show winners were announced just before the next performance, which was the band Ozomatli but they had a guest player on the guitar which was none other than the host of the award show himself. When he was introducing the band he said that the band was so ethically diverse that they get pulled over whoever drives the van. It was a very good performance.
The next award to be given out was Best Alternative Music Album and it went to the album "CUATRO CAMINOS" by Café Tacuba.
The host came back and started to introduce the next performer, however apparently someone walked in front of the teleprompter and he 'yelled' in a funny way at the person to get out of the way. I thought it was funny how he did it as he just swapped midway a sentence. And clearly the audience thought it was hilarious too. He easily swapped back to his original sentence and announced that the next performers were El Book Kim and Marco Antonio Solis. They did a song completely in Spanish and it was a good performance.
The next award given for Best Ranchero Album went to Alejandro Fernández who wasn't present at the award show.
The last performance was by Bebo Valdes, Diego El Cigala and Paquito D'Rivera. Again this performance was completely in Spanish but it was a very good performance.
The last award to be given out was for Album Of the Year and Alejandro Sanz won this award.
