The results of American Idol were brief and predictable. The show was shortened to a mere 30 minutes this week, for some unexplained reason. I'm wondering if Fox learned their lesson after fans of the show bashed the producers' humiliating way of eliminating contestants last week. Approximately 42 million people voted for their favorites on American Idol this week.
Up first was a talk with the judges, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell. They all seemed to echo the same thoughts - that it's about singing a song well, regardless of anything else. Ryan Seacrest talked to Simon about country music. Simon said that it's like every other genre, there are bad songs and good songs.
Celena Rae was the first person to be eliminated. She had the lowest votes of the girls. Ryan talked to her, and apparently she nailed the song in dress rehearsal. Randy and Paula told her to keep trying and going forward.
Ryan then talked to the girls again. Nadia Turner said she was just nervous when she failed that last note. Then it was time for either Aloha Mischeaux or Vonzell Solomon to leave the show. Ryan said that Aloha had to change her song at the last minute. It seemed to be because they couldn't get a release for the song she wanted to do. Unfortunately that weighed against her too much, and she was voted off. The judges agreed that she shouldn't be leaving the show, as she sang better than some of the other contestants. I presume they were at the very least talking about Janay Castine - who was very relieved to not be going home.
Then we moved on to a very quick elimination of the guys. As the guys had the most humiliating elimination last week, I think this was deliberately done. Joseph Murena, David Brown, Mario Vazquez, and Travis Tucker were told to come stand on either side of Ryan. At this point, you had to know it wouldn't be Mario leaving. He's got legions of young, mostly female, fans voting for him. To be honest, I think he should keep his hats on though, as I really didn't think his hair was all that flattering. Sure enough, he was the first to be told he was safe. I was hoping Travis would be safe next, as he's a pretty good singer, and becoming one of my favorites. Luckily for all of his fans, he was indeed safe. That meant that Joseph and David would be going home this week. Joseph it turned out had the lowest number of votes. He attributed this to lack of airtime. I think that is partially right, but he picked very bad songs and just didn't do anything too memorable in the last two weeks. Great performances can overcome lack of airtime. The problem comes when people who have worse performances get to stay, and I don't think that happened in his case. David was told by Paula that he just lacked that magical spark that was in his earlier audition performances.
So, what do you think? Is airtime to blame for Joseph's lack of votes? Who should have gone that didn't? Let your voice be heard!
Richard, I agree with you on the live sound mixing. Especially with the female singers. Some of them could barely be heard over the background music until they hit the higher notes. I think maybe some of the singers, especially the boys, may purposely be given an unfair advantage.
I felt that american idol only being 30 minutes left me and other people in my house looking at the show empty. We all were very upset that it was not a hour long. The girls and guys that were voted out could not even say goodbye. Please adjust your scheduling and give these singer some airtime to express themselves. In another light I think Janey should have been voted out , but then again this America. On guys Joseph should have stayed one more week and Nikko voted out but that is my opinion. Until next week awaiting the singing starting on Monday. Until them like ryan would say but me CARMEN O U T
I do not know if I am partially deaf this year, but I certainly think that Janay is not as bad as everyone is saying. I think she will rise to the occasion. I have no reason to be bias. I think we have lost the best female performer and we will now have to sit through a boring season given the fact that we have voted off Aloha. How did that happen?
PLEASE GUYS, DO NOT LET THE JUDGES SCREW WITH UR MINDS. KEEP THE GOOD CANDIDATES ON. AND FOR GOD IN HEAVEN SAKE GIVE JANAY A FAIR CHANCE. LET HER GET HER NERVES TOGETHER.

Janay has had her chance, & then some. She's subpar & it's time for her to go. Besides, why does she deserve another chance when Aloha doesn't get one?
I think David Brown had the most soul and respect for the song and the best voice. he's the only one of the men I would like to see in my CD collection. I can't believe he was eliminated but I hope he knows he's got it and will be a success
GUEST said: I guess Scott should go next week. He has a good singing voice but personality wise, I dont think so. I would rather choose Bo than Constantine. Lets face it, Bo is a better singer than Con. Its just that the latter has charisma and its working good for him. I would rather choose these guys for my top six for boys: Mario, Bo, Anwar, Nikko, Anthony and Travis. The judges were all correct, this season got the best male group. Its really hard to choose. All of them got a good singing voice and its just a matter of who really got the lowest vote. If my prediction is correct, I will go crazy whom to vote on the 1st final week. Whew!
I totally agreed with Tess that this season has the best male group!! ... Why is FOX giving Bo such little airtime??
Janay is the worst performer I have ever seen at this level of the competition. She can't sing, she can't dance and she looks like a little kid dressed up in adult clothes. I hope she gets off the show soon. WDYT?
I think that everyone should stop hating on Janay. Her performance was not bad. Yes Aloha shouldn't went home but Janay still was good. Yall need to stop hating on her 4 real!
I think Joe needs to get over. He can blame his lack of airtime if you want to. But, if I recall correctly, I saw David Brown audition, and I saw him announcing to his church congregation that he was going to Hollywood while he cried. So, don't blame that! He just wasn't good enough.
I can't believe Joseph got voted off, I do believe it was lack of airtime, he was cute, sweet looking and had a great voice, I'm glad Davids gone and I dont like Anwar... or even Mario that much. Oh well.
Janay truly is the worst all-around performer I've seen at this level of the competition. Even in past seasons the bad singers in the semi-finals at least looked like they had some idea what they were doing up there!! She really shouldn't have made it past the group auditions. Why didn't Jennifer Todd (the overweight woman who nailed If I Aint Got You in her audition) get through instead of this self-conscious inexperienced high-schooler?
For all these people bashing Janay. Question - how does that POSER named Constintine get to stay on? David or Joe could have stayed another week - and allowed that screamin freak to be put out of his misery. I agree that Aloha should have stayed on as well - Lindsey Cardinale could have been voted instead and I wouldn't have lost any sleep (she's cute though). Carrie is a one tune wonder - she won't be able to handle anything other than country - which is why her attempt at Janis Joplin went poorly. Nadia is capable of winning the whole thing - but she needs to inject more soul in her performances. Honestly - I really like Mikalah - although I can see why she annoys some people. If Amanda can put another performance together like last week - she will be firmly placed in the top 12...
Anthony is another one tune radio - he can't sing anything other than 80's ballads. Mario is a more colorful Justin Timberlake - and that's not a bad thing. Bo has the entire package - but can he sing Frank Sinatra or Michael Jackson? Nikko is a pleasant surprise, but without Simon's endorsement will be doomed to lose. I like Scott alot - but because of Ruben's past success he will also be doomed. Travis' best bet is to continue dancing as much as he can - because his voice won't carry him.
And what is with these judges - can they be any more repetive and bland? If Randy says dog one more time ... And Paula can you offer anything else besides "song selection" - as for Simon - the only honest judge there - I notice he has gone out of his way to be more constructive in his critques of the contestants - more of that Simon - and less of your "fine line between a pop star and a hotel lounge singer" cliche's please...
Yeah I agree, I've noticed a HUGE change in Simon and his critiquing of the singers this year. Last season he had reached his peak in his criticisms being just plain cruel and having no constructive use whatsoever.
This year, I feel like he's really making an effort to recognize the good things about people's performances (I was shocked when he told Amanda she gave a "great performance") and give more constructive criticism. It seems like Randy is now the judge that criticizes the performance without any good advice whatsoever. How many times in a row can you say "It was just aight for me"? Luckily, Paula's being slightly more critical than she used to. She will at least recognize when someone sucked instead of saying "You looked like you had fun up there/You looked great."
I agree that Janay is young and does need to go. She seems to have created a following of sorts though and that may be why she is still there. Constantine also seems to have a following of females that keep him on because of his looks. I don't see that, but to each his own! I still don't care for Bo's vocals . I think that folks get lost in his performance. Maybe, maybe not!
I want to encourage you to Listen to the songs and not so much the performance. The vocals are what you will be hearing from your tape/cd player when these folks get a record contract, not the performance. Entertainers must have a hit in order for tours and concerts to go well. You all know what I mean.
See ya Monday!!!
I'm so glad that FOX didn't humiliate the contestants as much this week as they did last week by having a 30 min show instead of an hour. Mario is so hot! (Sorry.) I don't, however, think that it was nice for Ryan to have that last 4 guys come up on stage with him and then announce the 2 who were going to stay, and then the other 2 guys automatically knew that they were out. I have to say again, MARIO IS SOOOOOOOO HOT!!! (A huuuuuge SORRY!)
