Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary would be performing on December 9th at Manhattan’s Carnegie Hall. Travers who has been battling Leukaemia would be performing at holiday concert. It would be the first performance by the popular folk trio, which includes Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey, after she was diagnosed a year ago.
Travers has been on route to steady recovery after she had a bone marrow transplant in April. Doctors have confirmed that her tests so far have shown no signs of the disease.
Travers stated that she thought that the doctors were very happy with her progress and they were thrilled and would be attending the concert.
Travers had waited a long time for a donor match after her chemotherapy failed to stop the disease and she lost almost 60 pounds and much of her trademark long blond hair. Travers quipped that she would not be shaking her hair out of her face, but she kind of liked her hair short.
Travers is grateful to her donor, whom she does not know yet, but hopes to meet the individual someday. She said her donor has a lifetime of free concerts to Peter, Paul and Mary.
The trio, known for hits such as "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and "Puff (The Magic Dragon)" are planning a dozen concerts next year.
Travers informed that she has received more than 10,000 e-mails from well-wishers around the world.
She revealed that the messages were heartfelt and lovely, she furthered that "one really gets to a place where one begins to feel all that goodwill, all those prayers were really part of the medicine that makes one well.
Hope you are always in best of spirits, Mary Travers! Our Best Wishes to you and the group!
Peter, Paul and (esp) Mary's return to the concert stage, at Carnegie Hall, on December 9th, 2005, was a glorious reunion of the legendary folk group.
The entire concert hall burst into cheers, applause and a long, long standing ovation as these remarkable people took center stage, with the New York Chorale Society, under the direction of Bob DeCormier, for an evening of holiday music, tears of gratitude and that near-45-year gift for lifting spirits, raising awareness and still being humbled by all the glitz and glamour of Carnegie Hall.
The famed folk group, including Paul Prestopino and Dick Kniss, Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey and Miss Travers, have returned to a busy, full schedule of concerts for the 2006 concert season.
Several concerts are already scheduled for 2007, with one being a three-night-stand at The Orleans Hotel Showroom, Las Vegas, on June 8-10, 2007.
Many of those who were in attendance at the Holiday Concert are planning to make the Las Vegas concert an event to remember, as we gather to share the spirit of the phenominal human rights activists, PPMD&P.
You're invited to join the Magic Dragons & Coffeehouse Members, as we travel around the country (and the world) to follow Peter, Paul and Mary's scheduled concerts.
