This might be a new record for an offer for a booted contestant on American Idol. Chris Daughtry was booted last night, and one day later he's got an offer from a major rock band to front their band.
Extra has been advertising that they had the exclusive offer. Unfortunately the show is shown at 2am by my local station, but it's played earlier elsewhere so news of the "major band" offering for Chris has leaked.
Yes folks, it seems that Fuel was majorly impressed by Chris' version of "Hemorrhage" at the beginning of his run on American Idol. Fuel bassist Jeff Abercrombie and guitarist Carl Bell talked to Extra about their offer, promising that Chris would never have to do another Elvis song.
Shortly after his elimination, Chris talked about the offer, saying he didn't know who it was for sure, but he had an idea. He said that he would be debating whether to join a band or launch a solo career. Before taking any offer, he will be tied to American Idol until after the tour is over.
In a USATODAY interview, he also mentioned that he had auditioned for Rock Star, but failed to get onto that show.
"I auditioned for Rock Star, the first one. It didn"t go too well, obviously. I didn"t make it on that show, and I realized then that was because I was supposed to be on this show."
He also talked about how totally shocked he was to be the one leaving. His former Idol roommate - Ace Young - called him to comfort him as well.
My daughters and I were shocked and saddened to see Chris go, but he did incredible and we will be first in line to buy his first CD, concert Tickets..whatever comes. We love his talent and hopefully this offer from Fuel is real, he will do incredible with them.
Terribly sad to see you go...I was anticipating seeing you shine on the night of the finale...as I went to another show just to be there to see YOU on the winning night. Be sure to announce your next move...I definately need to hear you again!!
I can't beleive that Chris Duaghtry was voted out last night.
Not to be rude but I think the American public is afraid of something new. Chris is the total package. He's got the look and by now the entire world knows he's got the voice. I heard him on ryan's radio show and Daughtry said that he just hopes nobody forgets about him. There is no chance what so ever of that happening. My family and I wish Chris and his family all the luck in the world in the future and me and My family will NOT be watching the remainder of the American Idol this season. CHRIS ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chris you were the star of the show this year. So you will be the one to come out ahead. I would buy your CD today. The others have nothing. Taylor looks like an old man. Elliott needs some serious dental work. The obvious winner is going to be Katherine. Which I don't care because I will no longer watch the show. It is to drawn out anyway. The writers need to reconsider their voting system.
I tried for hours and never got through to vote for Chris, and I know a ton of people that tried and couldn't either. Insane, really... I'm still in shock and can't believe he was voted off.
"weehh weeh weeh, Chris got voted off" Sure, let's completely ignore the fact that he DID get an offer to join Fuel now. after all what's more important... Whining like little kids is more fun.

i really hope chris daughtry accepts this offer from fuel and takes it from there. he is super talented and could possibly fail by launching his own career. not that he isn't talented enough to launch his own but everything happens for a reason and being voted off idol early and fuel looking for a lead vocalist....i say -- chris, this is your sign baby!!
Yay Chris! I'm so excited! Knew he would make it very far! And it's better he isn't tied under A.I.'s belt! I can't wait, I love his voice! I will be first in line to buy his Cd!
Jeff has actually been talking to Chris for a while from what I hear. The "announcement" was really no secret. They just couldn't talk about it while Chris was under contract with AI.
I'm glad the cat is finally out of the bag, though. Chris is definitely a good match for them.
Chris belongs in Fuel. Stepping in as a lead singer with an established band is probably the best possible career move that he could make. As someone else mentioned, Chris doesn't have Bo's music savvy.
BTW - what happened to Fuel's original lead singer?
From what I've heard, it was a combination of voice problems and artistic differences. Carl writes all of Fuel's material. He's very controlling in that respect. I think he allowed Brett one song per album. But honestly, judging by Brett's new band, I can see why.

This is the biggest protest I have seen here, but I have a feeling that you have many lurkers and seekers looking for a place to vent who will probably never return. Of coarse if they take a sanity break we would welcome them. The boy will either do good are bad and that's it, we kinda give a illusory order to a pretty chaotic mess. The only factors are the decisions he makes and the happenstance of life or fate or the big Kahuna. Will:o
Chris you are amazing, I am still in aww that you were voted off... but you do have some time to really figure out what you are going to do with your BRIGHT FUTURE! Hand down you Rocked it on AI

TeeHee Dusty, that's funny! Yes, poor poor Chris. A major rock band wants him. And he'll probably get lots and lots and lots of money for it. And more fame and exposure. That's just too bad for him.
Seriously, Chris fans (and I'm one of them), do you want him to put out an album like Bo's? Honestly! Anyone who was a Bo fan knows that stuff ain't rock! Chris will be just fine!! Suck it up and take it like men!

I bow before thee oh great and glorious master of the programming. May I request that this wonderful feature gets done... this weekend? Bless thee sir.
I'm a big Chris fan. I thnk AI has given him enough exposure that he could do well as a solo artist, but I think that joining Fuel would be safer for the time being (keeps him from having to sign with 19 Entertainment). Of course, he could sign with 19, put in his time, and then go off on his own ala Kelly and Clay (and I'd be shocked if Bo doesn't join this group as well).
