In 1981 she met the man she'd later marry, Thurston Moore, and start one of the best known punk bands in the world with: Sonic Youth. Sonic Youth released their debut EP in 1982, and they've been steadily recording since then. Though never really achieving "major fame", they've always been one of the greatest punk bands. Kim herself is not only known for Sonic Youth however, she's also in three other sidebands: Free Kitten, Harry Crews, and SYR5. And she's still working on her art. An art/music project 'Kim's Bedroom' opened in the Netherlands in 2000. She's strong, independent, and a great all-around artist. She's given women a strong role-model in punk rock. Though she's not the first girl in punk, and probably not the best, she's the best known. She's proven to millions that girls can do punk and they can do it well, while still being a mother, a wife, and an artist.
